Coronavirus in Heinsberg, Germany

Deceased 78-year-old attended a carnival session
A man from Gangelt died as a result of Covid-19. He was probably infected at a carnival session and had previous illnesses, said the district administrator of Heinsberg.
A 78-year-old from Gangelt in the Heinsberg district of North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the first two dead from the corona virus in Germany. This was announced by district administrator Stephan Pusch. The man had reported symptoms at the Geilenkirchen hospital on Friday and had died of heart failure at 2 p.m. on Monday.

The deceased had suffered from numerous previous illnesses, said Pusch. He is said to have participated in a carnival event with several infected people. However, it is still unclear whether it was the capping session in which the couple had attended that the virus had first been detected.

According to Pusch, there are currently 323 people infected with the coronavirus, 15 of whom are in inpatient treatment. There are no children or adolescents among them. Elderly people with previous illnesses are particularly affected, said Pusch.

The second death in Germany is an 89-year-old woman from Essen. The first German was reportedly died of Covid-19 in Egypt at the weekend. It was a fireman from Hamburg.
